Education Opportunities

Lula Lake Land Trust strives to be a leader in conservation education.

Picture
Whether you're planning a field trip or an official group visit to Lula Lake Land Trust, we offer many educational opportunities. Check out the guide below for more information. Email our Community Engagement Coordinator, Daniel, at daniel@lulalake.org if you have specific questions or want to book a visit.

Activities
We offer an outdoor space for teacher-guided learning.

Timing and Structure
At minimum, field trips require 2.5 hours. Getting students unloaded and prepared for the hike can take anywhere from 10-20 minutes. They will be greeted by a staff member of Lula Lake Land Trust and given an introduction to “what a land trust is” and answer any questions. The walk to the lake & falls takes an average of 30 minutes one-way. Students can spend about an hour exploring Lula Lake and Lula Falls. If taking part in the scavenger hunt, it will be done along the gravel road on the way to the lake and the falls. If taking part in a lesson, it will add approximately 30 minutes to your time. Lunch time is on your schedule, but for most groups, lunch typically takes about 30-45 minutes.

Parking
Lula Lake can accommodate buses, vans, and cars for chaperones. Further instructions will be provided upon scheduling.

Lunch
We do not provide lunch, but we do have picnic tables.

Prices
There is no cost, but donations are appreciated.

Important Information
As we are not a park, we do not have any safety barriers. Proper footwear, proper attire, and plenty of water are strongly encouraged. We prefer to have no more than 40 students at a time, but exceptions can be made.

Behind the Waterfall

Lula Lake Land Trust was established by the will of Mr. Robert Davenport, Sr. at his death in 1994. Since then, his children Bobby, Elliott, Eleanor and Adelaide along  with the Board of Trustees, local foundations and staff have helped to conserve over 8,000 acres on Lookout Mountain, doubled the size of Cloudland Canyon State Park, built nearly 60 miles of recreational trails spanning private, conservation, and state owned lands. Our fee owned properties are research sites for  UTC, UGA, and the State of Georgia Forestry Division as we seek to reintroduce the American Chestnut Tree while attempting to fight the Hemlock Wooly Adelgid with both chemical and biologic agents. We are in continuous pursuit of additional properties to protect and conserve within the Rock Creek and Bear Creek watersheds on Lookout Mountain. We seek to become outstanding stewards of conservation lands surrounding Chattanooga, Tennessee along with our 6 other land trust partners in the region.
