Become a Volunteer at Lula Lake!
Our gracious volunteers are a tremendous resource in helping us achieve our mission of conservation, education, and low impact recreation. As a nonprofit, we naturally depend on help from the public who believe in our efforts. One of the main benefits of volunteering is having access to the beautiful Core Preserve based on logged hours and permission from the Community Engagement Coordinator.

Volunteer Incentives:
20 volunteer hours
1 afternoon of hiking on the Core Preserve during non-Open Gate Days

40 volunteer hours
1 night of camping on the Core Preserve

100 volunteer hours
a free annual pass

Here are the ways you can help:

Public Open Gate Days
Open Gate Days are held on the first and last weekend of each month. Our morning shift is from 9:00am-1:00pm where volunteers help direct parking and the check-in process using an iPad.

We are also implementing our Docent volunteer program during Open Gate Days from 9:30am-2:30pm. The Docents are knowledgeable volunteers who provide education to our visitors about our mission statement, the history of the Core Preserve, the ways we are funded, how we operate, and how this ties together to make Lula Lake Land Trust what it is today.

Trail Work
A huge effort right now is completing the 15 miles of new trails known as the Durham. If you enjoy getting your hands dirty and want to help dig in the dirt, please reach out and we will be in touch about the trail days on our calendar. We typically work from 9:00am-1:00pm on weekdays and weekends, weather dependent.

Special Events
We have some exciting events on our calendar that we will need help with. Event volunteers can help with multiple duties, which typically involve parking directors, the check-in process, merch sales, and cleanup. Please see the calendar for our upcoming events and reach out if you are interested in helping.

Education
Do you have a special skill set that would help us continue to achieve one of the tiers of our mission statement of providing education? Reach out and let us know your specialty, whether that is environmental science, botany, water quality testing, or history of the area. We are always looking for volunteers to help educate visitors of the Core Preserve. Please be on the lookout for water quality testing certification trainings soon.

All Open Gate Days, trail days, special events, and community events are listed on our online calendar here. If you would like to be involved in any of these, please click here to sign up. Please contact our Community Engagement Coordinator, Daniel Roberts, with any questions you may have about volunteering. He can be reached at daniel@lulalake.org or 706-820-0520, Ext. 2.

Behind the Waterfall

Lula Lake Land Trust was established by the will of Mr. Robert Davenport, Sr. at his death in 1994. Since then, his children Bobby, Elliott, Eleanor and Adelaide along  with the Board of Trustees, local foundations and staff have helped to conserve over 8,000 acres on Lookout Mountain, doubled the size of Cloudland Canyon State Park, built nearly 60 miles of recreational trails spanning private, conservation, and state owned lands. Our fee owned properties are research sites for  UTC, UGA, and the State of Georgia Forestry Division as we seek to reintroduce the American Chestnut Tree while attempting to fight the Hemlock Wooly Adelgid with both chemical and biologic agents. We are in continuous pursuit of additional properties to protect and conserve within the Rock Creek and Bear Creek watersheds on Lookout Mountain. We seek to become outstanding stewards of conservation lands surrounding Chattanooga, Tennessee along with our 6 other land trust partners in the region.
