Lula Lake Land Trust Hiking Guide
If you enjoy sharing your passion for nature and outdoor recreation and have a flexible schedule, this job may be the perfect job for you! LLLT Open Gate Day group hikes are pre-scheduled every Open Gate Day (the first and last weekends of the month). Private guided hikes are scheduled around the guide and participant’s schedules, often on weekdays. The Hiking Guide position is a part-time position, requiring a commitment of leading a minimum of two group or private guided hikes per month during our busier seasons in the Spring and Summer. Availability during weekdays for private guided hikes is preferred, but not required.
Hiking Guides are responsible for providing participants with excellent customer service through an interpretive, educational hike of up to 4-7 miles and 700-800 ft. of elevation gain. Guides are required to inform participants about the property’s unique biodiversity and natural features, regional historical significance, and increase public understanding and knowledge of LLLT’s mission of conservation, education, and low impact recreation.

Additional Responsibilities:
- Must be able to demonstrate strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
- Use your best judgment to determine the participants’ physical ability and any limitations to determine the most appropriate hiking route for the group.
- Willingness to work in varying weather conditions including the heat, rain, cold, or wind.
- Have strong awareness of potentially dangerous situations and the ability to think on your feet to avoid them.
- Follow LLLT emergency protocols in the case of an incident where a guest is injured.
- Represent LLLT by spreading education to guests about our history, conservation efforts, mission statement, and Leave No Trace principles.
Minimum Qualifications:
- The physical ability to hike 6+ miles with varying elevation gain.
- Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident and provide documentation to support this.
- Must be available to lead at least two group or private hikes per month.
- Must have reliable transportation to get to Lula Lake Land Trust.
- The ability to learn about LLLT with the goal of increasing public understanding and knowledge of our history of conservation, our mission statement, and how we operate.
- Passionate about conservation, environmentalism, or outdoor recreation.
- A flexible schedule. Open Gate Day group guided hikes (held on the first and last weekend of every month) can fill up at the last minute. There is no set schedule for private hikes, but they will be scheduled around the guide and participants’ availability.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Up-to-date WFA or WFR certification.
- Previous customer service experience.
- Knowledge of Leave No Trace principles.
Perks Of The Position:
- Occasional access to LLLT’s Core Preserve for hiking or mountain biking when it is typically closed (with permission from the Community Engagement Coordinator).
- A beautiful work environment which requires you to be outside all day.
- A pay rate of $15.00 per hour to hike on the beautiful property.
