Low-impact recreation

Low-Impact Recreation
at Lula Lake

Donate to Lula Lake's Recreation Efforts!
Lula Lake Land Trust is more than just a waterfall. Since 1994, LLLT has grown with leaps and bounds. The Core Preserve is no longer one of Chattanooga's best kept secrets. The desire to recreate, to play outside, to break free of digital devices has been a driving force for visitors. With the Core Preserves 8+ miles of trails, the Cloudland Connector Trail system, and the Moonshine Trails, LLLT has recreational opportunities available from beginners to experts and everyone in-between. With trail systems connecting all the way to Cloudland Canyon State Park, mountain bikers and hikers have more places to explore. These low-impact, recreational trails are designed to get visitors up and moving in the outdoors. There's no better way to inspire land stewardship than by being in the heart of it all - nature. While many of LLLT's trail systems are open daily, the Core Preserve is only open to the public during Open Gate Day events (first and last weekend of the month) with required reservations. When the Core Preserve is not open to the public, LLLT is engaging students with free, conservation-related field trips focusing on becoming stewards of the land.

The Core Preserve has 13 trails totaling 8+ miles, but LLLT provides more adventures with additional trail systems. The Moonshine Trails consist of 8 miles of adventure, and the 14-mile Cloudland Connector Trail is straightforward and ideal for both beginners as well as runners, hikers, and mountain bikers.

Behind the Waterfall

Lula Lake Land Trust was established by the will of Mr. Robert Davenport, Sr. at his death in 1994. Since then, his children Bobby, Elliott, Eleanor and Adelaide along  with the Board of Trustees, local foundations and staff have helped to conserve over 8,000 acres on Lookout Mountain, doubled the size of Cloudland Canyon State Park, built nearly 60 miles of recreational trails spanning private, conservation, and state owned lands. Our fee owned properties are research sites for  UTC, UGA, and the State of Georgia Forestry Division as we seek to reintroduce the American Chestnut Tree while attempting to fight the Hemlock Wooly Adelgid with both chemical and biologic agents. We are in continuous pursuit of additional properties to protect and conserve within the Rock Creek and Bear Creek watersheds on Lookout Mountain. We seek to become outstanding stewards of conservation lands surrounding Chattanooga, Tennessee along with our 6 other land trust partners in the region.
